EVERRICH Duty Free Shop: An ESG Model in the Travel Retail Industry with Completed Carbon Audit and Verification

2024.04.09

“Net Zero Carbon Emissions” stands as the global paramount today. The Ministry of Environment declared last year that certain industries and major manufacturing firms must conclude a carbon audit by April 30, 2024. Yet, EVERRICH Duty Free Shop, a leading Taiwanese duty-free brand, independently carried out a carbon audit without regulatory bindings. They also finalized the verification process ahead of Earth Day 2024, garnering acknowledgment from the international third-party organization BSI, all while actively immersing themselves in ESG initiatives. They are heralded as an exemplary model within the travel retail industry.

Internationally Validated Carbon Audit, Advancing Toward Net Zero Carbon Emissions

In 2023, EVERRICH Duty Free Shop conducted a greenhouse gas audit for their bonded warehouse, aligning with ISO 14064-1:2018 standards. They conducted a certification ceremony prior to this year’s Earth Day in April, where Hui-Ling Chien, representing the British Standards Institution (BSI), presented the Verification Opinion Statement. EVERRICH expressed that conducting a greenhouse gas emission audit is akin to slimming down, emphasizing that understanding one’s carbon emissions and footprint is essential for formulating specific carbon reduction plans and continuously implementing sustainable strategies. EVERRICH also plans to complete carbon audits for all of their owned buildings before the end of this fiscal year’s third quarter.

Advocating Industry Value Chain Participation, EVERRICH’s Three-Year 1% ESG Commitment

In 2023, EVERRICH Duty Free Shop launched the “everrich 1%” three-year plan, committing to continuously investing 1% of time, 1% of resources, and exerting more than 1% influence.

In the same year, EVERRICH employees took the initiative to organize nearly 400 volunteer activities, covering diverse areas such as caring for the disadvantaged and elderly, rural education, and supporting children, dedicating 1% of all employees’ time. Their 1% management also includes expanding environmentally friendly product procurement and establishing green product sections across all EVERRICH locations nationwide, earning them the Ministry of Economic Affairs’ Buying Power Award for first place in 2023.

The 1% impact began with paper bags and product packaging materials used in their core business, employing point rewards to encourage consumers to reduce their use of disposable paper bags or shopping bags when shopping at the airport, resulting in a total reduction of 3.4 million paper bags consumed throughout 2023.

As a leading brand in the travel retail industry, EVERRICH organized “The 1% Sustainability Action Exchange” in 2023, inviting 36 partners from various industries to share practical sustainable actions. Together, they have executed 562 green actions.

EVERRICH will continue to invest 1%, taking responsibility for Taiwan and practicing Duty4Taiwan. They also look forward to exerting greater influence in the future, rallying more companies across industries and consumers to take action in practicing ESG sustainable development.
