A Speck in the Vast Ocean : LIN, Jheng-Rong Lacquer Painting Solo Exhibition
2025.02.13 - 2025.05.13

Lacquerware is a traditional craft that involves applying natural lacquer as a protective coating on the surfaces of objects. With a history spanning thousands of years, a variety of lacquer techniques has been developed. When these techniques are applied to flat surfaces, they give rise to a unique form of artistic medium—lacquer painting.

LIN, Jheng-Rong’s lacquer paintings combine traditional techniques and materials yet present an innovative departure from conventional lacquer art. His works, characterized by an illustrative style, are rich in meaning, with each piece telling a unique story—like reading different chapters of a narrative. In his exploration of lacquer, LIN emphasizes its warm texture and timeless hues, which are particularly captivating. The semi-transparent amber tones set the base of the artwork, while lines and symbolic elements weave his inner emotions into the painting, much like telling a story. Furthermore, he continues to experiment with other forms of lacquer expression, expanding the creative possibilities of lacquer painting.
